Virus Scanner & Malicious Software Removal Tool!

This is a change of pace from my normal posts, but too many people are not running antivirus software - therefore making computer stores rich removing preventable virus infections!

The below two computer software scanners are free common sense computer software security checks everyone needs to use about once a month. Norton offers a free virus scanner and Microsoft downloads a free Malicious Software removal tool every month. The problem? You actually have to initiate running these two tools! Here's how!

VIRUS SCANNER: Free online Norton Virus Scanner (this program detects viruses your antivirus program may have missed). Go to: http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/home.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym&plfid=21&pkj=NVEOESLHFEPGEVVSDUX. Click "START" button under the Virus Detection logo.

MALICIOUS SOFTWARE REMOVAL TOOL: Free Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT): Click "START" button, then "RUN", type in "MRT" (no quotes), click "OK". Click "NEXT", then "QUICK SCAN". Review the results.

I recommend you run both of these tools once a month - no matter what type of antivirus or security suite you use.

Garand Gas Trap Versus Gas Port Systems

The M1 Garand rifle originally utilized a screw-on "Gas Trap" system (Circa 1936 through 1941). Due to a number of problems exhibited in using the Gas Trap design, a redesign implemented in 1941 was call the spline-type or "Gas Port". Here's a set of pictures that may prove useful.

More information is included in an article I co-authored in the GCA Journal entitled: "How Many Gas Traps Were Made?" See Volume 24, Issue 4, Fall 2010. If you are not a member of the Garand Collectors Association (GCA), go to their website and join now! Great articles, great pictures, great people! Go to: www.thegca.org.

Poster: Model 77E Stevens 12 Gage Shotgun

Many of these Vietnam Era Shotguns are now in use as home defense firearms. This poster - and the accompanying Techpub  - provide a solid "exploded view" of the firearm to assist an owner in assembly and disassembly of the shotgun.

How To Shoot The U.S. Army Rifle [M1 Garand]

Originally described as: "A graphic handbook on correct shooting" and published by The Infantry Journal, Inc. (now the Association of the United States Army) in 1943. This 134 page book is all about shooting, sighting in, breathing, positioning, and adjusting the M1 Garand rifle given the weather and/or climate conditions, gauging wind, zeroing the M1 Garand, etc. This book is not for the politically correct - in 1943 the United States was at war with Germany and Japan - it lays out graphically how to handle their troops in combat. Every other page in this book is a black and white picture. On the opposing side is a write-up describing how to do something with the M1 Garand - then you can actually see U.S. Army troops doing it in the picture! I meticulously reconstructed this manual from an exceptional original.

The pictures are immaculate and exceptionally readable - actually better then the originals in the book I scanned. The original book size was approximately 5" X 7". After considering paying to print the book as a paperback (at nearly the same price as what I'm now charging), I settled in a standard letter-size book that is wire bound with a hard see through front cover. If you want to learn how to shoot the M1 Garand, this is the book.
